Jenny Craig, Inc. Applauds New IRS Ruling
LA JOLLA, Calif., April 2, 2002 - Jenny Craig, Inc., one of the largest weight loss management programs worldwide, applauds the newly released IRS decision, Revenue Ruling 2002-19, that provides a tax deduction for people who enroll in weight loss programs to help treat obesity and related diseases such as hypertension.
"Since the company's inception in 1983, the number of obese and overweight Americans has increased at a staggering rate," said Patti Larchet, President and Chief Operating Officer for Jenny Craig. "We are encouraged by the IRS ruling and hope the tax deduction will encourage men and women who are suffering from obesity-related diseases to begin a healthy weight management program such as Jenny Craig." Larchet added, "We are very proud to have been a part of the American Obesity Association's coalition that petitioned the IRS for this medical deduction."
